Having treatment

Your first treatment

Your first treatment will be 90 mins long to give time for a detailed review of your health.  Jessica will ask you all about the problem that has brought you for treatment, and about the rest of your health.  She will also feel the pulses in your wrists, and look at your tongue, both providing useful diagnostic information.  Chinese Medicine views the body holistically, so symptoms that may seem unrelated often fit together into a coherent picture.

Then, as you lie or sit on the treatment couch, she will use fine, sterile, disposable needles on the acupuncture points you need.  Some needles may be inserted only briefly and others left in for up to 20 minutes.

Testimonials

"I had never had acupuncture before, had never considered it and was very nervous before my first session. I have found the experience to be very beneficial and as soon as I got through the door I was made to feel at ease. I have had treatment for a number of symptoms and have had a helpful and, at times, a quite profoundly positive outcome. I would recommend acupuncture and I would certainly recommend Jessica."

"I would say that you offer very professional and holistic treatment, that my musculoskeletal problems responded very well and that I felt better than I had for years in terms of energy levels and my general constitutional health."

"I have always wanted to go for acupuncture and was really pleased when a friend recommended Jessica.  I went to her to work on a variety of things, not least of which was my annual summer allergies.  This year, my allergies have been worse than ever. I work on music festivals which means I spend a lot of time in grassy fields over the summer.  With chronic allergies, I was really struggling to do my job.  After seeing Jessica three times, I saw a massive improvement.  After a few further sessions, I can honestly say that I haven't had an allergy attack for weeks.  In addition to alleviating my allergy problems, I also feel that acupuncture has brought me more peace and well being than I have felt in ages. Jessica is very professional but at the same time she makes you feel very comfortable and relaxed with the process. I would recommend an acupuncture session with Jessica to anyone!"

How will the needles feel?

A lot of people feel some nervousness about having acupuncture.  This rarely outlasts your first treatment - it's often a much bigger deal in your imagination than it is in reality!  The experience of being needled never seems to stop anyone coming back for more.

The sensation varies a lot from person to person and from point to point.  Some people enjoy it, some people find it an interesting sensation, and some people do find it briefly uncomfortable.  Different people describe their acupuncture sensations as tingly, heavy, spreading, numb, hot, tickly, or sharp.

Preparing for treatment

You don't need to make any special preparations, just come wearing comfortable loose clothing, and try not to come when very hungry, full, or tired.

When you book your first appointment, Jessica will send a health questionnaire for you to complete and bring with you.  This will help Jessica focus your time together on the key areas for your individual health.

Subsequent treatments

Jessica will discuss with you how you have been since the previous treatment and how you are now.  She'll feel your pulses and look at your tongue, before moving on to treatment.  The duration of your treatment will vary depending on the specific treatment needed for your diagnosis.

As well as using needles she may suggest using additional techniques, if they are the right thing for you:

heating some acupuncture points using a Chinese herb called moxa

electroacupuncture, with a tiny electric current between the needles

‘cupping’ where small glass bowls apply suction to certain points

‘gua sha,’ where tense muscles are gently pummelled

suggestions about your diet or other aspects of your lifestyle which could really benefit your individual health

How much does it cost?

  Cost      Duration
First treatment £65 90 mins
Ongoing treatments £45 45 mins

You can pay by cheque or cash.

Cancellations

Please let Jessica know if you need to change your appointment!  Unfortunately if you cancel within 24 hours of your treatment you will need to pay the fee in full.
